DESCRIPTION:Please do join our community and Rabbi Leah for our Sukkot service.  This is a diverse event with people of different faiths and ethnicities – with a service & outside celebration of this harvest festival.  We are very pleased that Dee Robinson will tell us about New Routes Integration a Norwich charity which we support. \nWe will erect our Sukkah (booth) outside the Old Meeting House and Rabbi Leah will lead the service and then we will honor the customs inside the Sukkah. If it rains\, we can retreat inside\, but Rabbi Leah has pointed out\, it is traditional to lead the service in the “outside booth”. \nCome along from 10:30 help decorate the Sukkah with fruits\, twigs and foliage. It’s always good fun putting the fruits in small nets and hanging them from the roof of the Sukkah\, as well as shaking the lulav. SUMMARY:Tu B'Shevat Seder
DESCRIPTION:It’s great to welcome LJ Youth workers up to Norwich again\,this time\, to lead a Tu B’Shevat\, New Year of Trees\, Seder.  It falls on the 15th of Shevat; Tu means 15\, though ours will be a week later due to circumstances beyond our control.  It was originally a date to age trees for a tithe (or tax) of first fruits at the Temple.  It has evolved  over the centuries and we can learn about the new year of trees\, the history of this festival and how it has changed. \nIt resonates for many of us as care of the land & environment.  In the Hebrew Bible & tradition trees are noted for their importance. The Talmud sages believed that humanity owed its existence to trees. We should treat them with special recognition and care.  Tu B’shevat also recognises the first fruits of the year & the Seder can be a feast of many different fruits\, including the  species associated with Israel. \nPlease let us know if you want to come along & share fruit for the Seder. It is a harvest festival\, but more importantly commemorates the giving of the Torah to the Jews. Please join us with Emily DeVoto\, Rabbi Roderick Young and Marsha Parker.\n \nWe’d be pleased if you chip in with dairy main dishes or desserts with cheese. \nThe study session honours the similar “tikkun” held each year by the 16th-century mystical rabbis of Safed\, during which the rabbis and their students stayed up all night on Shavuot studying sacred texts. We will not stay up all night.  As other communities do\, we will come together and enjoy Jewish learning across a range of topics.  \n

DESCRIPTION:This year we’re holding a special Sukkot service. As part of our harvest celebration\, we’ve invited people from different faith groups to share in the festivities with us. There will be a small open service & people will have an opportunity to celebrate the harvest with us.\n \nWe will erect our Sukkah outside the Old Meeting House and Rabbi Leah will lead the service from inside the Sukkah. If it rains\, we can retreat inside\, but as Rabbi Leah points out\, it is traditional to lead the service in the “outside booth”. \nThe Sukkah will be put up earlier\, but from 10:30 help decorate the Sukkah with fruits\, twigs and foliage.
