From Joy Croft:
Joe Stirling is known for many things in Norwich – not least as founder of Stirling Travel in Magdalen Street and as Sheriff of Norwich in the 1970s.  But none of this could have happened, had Joe (born Gunter Stern) not got onto the last Kindertransport train to leave southern Germany in 1939 and escaped to Britain.  Tragically, the rest of his immediate family was deported and died in the concentration camps.Joe has told his adventures often to schools and the Human Library.  One day, Phyllida Scriven heard him speak and knew she wanted to write his story.  After many conversations and much research, the  biography, Escaping Hitler: a Jewish Boy’s Quest for Freedom and His Future was published in January.
