Joan Goodman Lectures

Joan Goodman was a notable, long-standing member of the Norwich Hebrew Congregation (NHC). The Progressive Jewish Community of East Anglia (PJCEA) began in 1990 and Joan also joined the PJCEA, now known as the Norwich Liberal Jewish Community (NJLC).

Joan remained a Member of the NHC, with traditional practices. Simon Goodman, her cousin,  informed us that Joan also joined PJCEA as she felt that women also should have the opportunity to actively participate in Services.

Joan was very generous to and helped both communities. She died in 2000.

The Joan Goodman Memorial Lecture was initiated in about 2001 by Simon Goodman, her cousin.  NHC and Norwich LJC jointly arrange this annual lecture, which takes place at the NHC Earlham Road Synagogue.

We are very grateful for her support and willingly support these memorial lectures.
